These terms
These terms cover every custom knife order placed with BladeFoundry, whether the order starts by email, phone, our contact form or in person at 181 Kahikatea Drive, Melville, Hamilton 3206. By placing a deposit you accept them. If anything here is unclear, ask before you pay and we will explain it in plain language.
Quotes and orders
A quote is valid for thirty days from the date we send it. Once you accept a quote and pay the deposit, the order is confirmed and we reserve a slot in the workshop queue. Any change you request after that, such as a different blade length, pattern or handle timber, may change the price and the lead time. We will always confirm the new figure in writing before carrying on.
Deposits and payment
- A deposit of twenty percent is required to confirm an order
- The balance is due once you have seen photographs of the finished knife, before shipping
- Payment is by bank transfer or by card through our payment provider
- Quoted prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST unless we state otherwise
- Deposits are not refundable once the billet has been welded or the blade has been cut, because at that point the steel is committed to your order
Lead times and delivery
Lead times quoted on this site are estimates based on current workshop load. Heat treat cycles, courier delays and material supply can shift them. We will tell you as soon as we know a date is moving. Title and risk in the knife pass to you on delivery. Please inspect the parcel before signing and report damage within forty-eight hours so we can lodge a claim with the courier.
Care and warranty
Our knives are covered by a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the period stated on the product page. The warranty does not cover chips from cutting bone, frozen food or wire, damage from a dishwasher, rust from leaving a blade wet, or normal wear from sharpening. Keep the knife dry, hand wash it, and store it so the edge is protected.
Liability and governing law
To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim relating to an order is limited to the price you paid for that order. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986. These terms are governed by New Zealand law and any dispute will be heard in the New Zealand courts. Questions go to bladefoundry@gmail.com.
